A Haiku, by Monica Korde

Updated: Mar 8, 2021

My dear friend Monica Korde just won the second prize, out of 400 competitors and 1,000 haikus, in the Filoli Winter Haiku Competition 2021.

I am very happy to share her beautiful haiku with you.

Monica Korde

Monica Korde, along with being a mainstay at local open mics in California's Bay Area, co-hosts the online poetry series First Tuesday Poets’ Night with former San Mateo County Poet Laureate. Her poems have appeared online and in anthologies. Monica's featured readings hosted by poetry groups from Half Moon Bay and Belmont have also been published on YouTube. Besides poetry, her time is also dominated by community work and freelance writing. Her poetic voice is informed by the natural world and is often nuanced by observations and reflections upon the everyday that surrounds us. When not writing, she enjoys hiking, taking equestrian lessons, painting, and motorcycling the back roads with her husband. A former teacher of English and French, Monica is originally from India.
